Rev PI Connect S Boot Issue

Post by raghu.philips »

Hello!

We are having booting issues of Rev PI Connect S 32GB, which we deployed on the field.
We have 10 + RevPIs with the operating system :2023-09-26-revpi-bullseye-armhf,has some some of our custom code on a higher level used for data logging via UART and have a ModBus over Ethernet.

During our multiple software and hardware validation in house didn't have any issues, But after deploying it in several locations the Rev Pi is failing to boot. on further investigation on the Rev Pis, we found that these PIs are stuck in a boot.
In some Pis its not booting and there is no output on HDMI.
In some Pis its booting and the HDMI display shows Firmware not found.
- In these we tried to connect to PC via RPI boot and the device is not available.
In some Pis its booting but the OS is halting randomly.

Our software and hardware team had done enough testing on these broken Pis ( which is 7 out of 10 deployed) and came to a conclusion that there is something wrong with the hardware, We contacted the supplier and was asked to check here first. Can you please support on this issue.
Regards
Raghu

Hello Raghu, thank you for the detailed description of the error pattern. This means that the error occurred in the field in 7 out of 10 cases. Can you send us the data from the Data Matrix codes on the front of the devices? Furthermore, one or more SOS reports would help us to better understand the system(s). Some thoughts in advance: What is the environment like in the field in terms of power supply, humidity, temperature, installation? See here:

Have you activated the watchdog in the field, which is deactivated by a jumper as standard?

Hi Dirk,
Sorry for late response it took me some time to collect all info.
The Device is mounted inside a cabinet on din rail with ambient temperature 30 C with humidity not more than 40%. This operated in an indoor environment(With HVAC so ambient temps outside the cabinet shouldn't exceed 25C)
These device are powered using industrial power supply (MPN:MPIMF120-23B48). There are circuit breaks and EMI filters on AC input side.
Watch dogs are disabled on the devices by shorting or connecting GND and WD on the 24V DC input.
On investigation we tried disabling and enabling the Watchdog, but the behavior didnt change.

The devices have serial numbers,
10036493361 1.0
10036493342 1.0
10036496653 1.0
10036493263 1.0
10036493304 1.0
10036493362 1.0

Before deploying the devices the functional(Also SW testing w.r.t our internal quality control, safety and EMC testing has been done on these devices.
