Effect of interruptions in power supply

Hello REVPI community,

I'm implementing a REVPI Compact in an application where we previously used a PLC and PC combination. While our hardware needs are simple, we require some Python functionality, so we can't just use a PLC.

Main Issue:
In our previous setup (PLC + PC), we encountered a critical problem: after sudden power interruptions, the operating system would sometimes fail to boot, rendering the entire system unusable.

Current Situation:
We can ensure safe voltage input to the REVPI Compact.
However, we cannot provide continuous power without significantly increasing material costs.

Questions:

Is the REVPI Compact susceptible to OS boot failures after sudden power loss?
Are there ways to protect the system and ensure reliable booting without a full UPS?
If a complete shutdown is necessary, can we implement a reliable method to keep power on just long enough for a safe shutdown?

We're looking for cost-effective solutions that don't require expensive additional hardware like a full UPS system like these https://catalog.weidmueller.com/procat/ ... page=Group. Any advice on OS configuration, filesystem choices, or other software/firmware solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help!
Pedro

Hello Pedro, I read your request with interest. There are already some discussions here in the forum, e.g. here, whether a simple capacitor can also enable this functionality: viewtopic.php?t=1416
A further discussion raises these questions as to whether the file system can handle power failures:

In the end, I can only advise you to use a UPS to protect yourself from such risks of damage due to power failure.
