Win32 Disk Imager Error 2

Post by KoenW »

Hello,

I am having issues with writing an image to a RevPi Connect. The RevPi was working fine before I tried to load a fresh image onto it. Now it will not boot anymore.

While writing the image with Win32 Disk Imager, I always get an error message when I get close to 30%. See attached screenshot.

I am using rpiboot, Win32 disk imager and Windows7

I have tried:
- running RpiBoot as admin
- running win32 disk imager as admin
- use a backup image i created a few months ago
- use a fresh image of Stretch, downloaded from the web shop
- use different laptops
- use different usb cables
- use different usb ports
- use Etcher instead of Win32 disk imager

I am a bit at a loss what else i can do. I read somewhere on the raspberry pi site that it could help to format the SD card first. Obviously the RevPi doesnt have an SD card... so I'm not sure if i can try to format its memory first?

Note: rpiboot seems to work ok.

Any suggestions?

Regards
Koen

Hello Koen, thank you for your detailled error description and all the steps that you have taken to try to fix this issue. So the error points to the Write action which involves the connection between the USB host PC and the eMMC of the RevPi. So we did not yet have this error but maybe the eMMC has a damage. But to avoid an unnecessary RMA please try to use a linux system i.e. Ubuntu to write your image. Have a look here: https://www.raspberrypi.org/documentati ... s/linux.md

Hello Koen,You can also try on a separate windows 10 PC.Additionally you will have to disable driver signature for RPiBoot.

Hi Dirk, thanks for your feedback.

I followed the instructions per the link you provided. And it still failed, very similar. Additionally, I had a look at the dmesg diagnostics (see attached zipped txt dump). I am fairly confident that there is a problem with the USB on the RevPi: it seems to randomly disconnect.

One time i got as much as 2GB copied to the eMMC. I tried booting the RevPi with a HDMI monitor connected. Unfortunately it gets stuck in the booting process - see screenshot.

Even when I just leave the RevPi connected to the PC with the USB, it randomly disconnects and reconnects. You can see that in the end of the dmesg file.

Sometimes I am able to write as much as 2GB, sometimes only 200MB.

I was wondering: do you guys have a 'Lite' version of the operating system? Similar to Raspbian_Lite. I could then install the necessary things once it is up and running.
Alternatively, if I install Raspbian_Lite, can i get the necessary extras installed, like Pictory etc... ? Perhaps you have a Github repository?

Regards
Koen

Hello,
I am super new to Revolution Pi and I am facing similar issue.
In my case, I have an image file and I am trying to write it into RevPi using Win32 Disk Imager but I keep getting error "Attempt to write Data Failed. Error 5 Access is Denied". Can you please provide me a solution?
