Revpi Core 3 Upgrade internal SOM with newest 32GB

We have purchased several rev pi cores 3 but in one application we have a serious limitation since we only have 4GB of eMMC.
Now we have seen that the new revPI core 3+ have SOM modules with 32GB.
Can the already purchased and installed revPi core 3 hardware be upgraded by replacing only the SOM module inside with a 32GB one?
The revpi core 3 currently equipped with SOM 4Gb can be fully compatible with the new version 32 Gb SOM which is mounted on the revpi core 3+ ?

The short answer is yes.
But there are some gotchas:
- The plastic case is held together by little tabs and great care is necessary when opening the case to avoid breaking one of them. See here for an explanation on how to open the case. It's in German I'm afraid but includes pictures.
- On the RevPi Core, the Compute Module is fixed to the SO-DIMM slot with glue. You're going to have to carefully cut through the glue with a knife. The glue is very strong: Don't try to remove any glue residue from the Compute Module, you risk damaging or removing SMD components in the process! (On the Connect, the Compute Module is fixed with screws and a future revision of the Core will likewise use screws. The glue is a temporary solution until the next revision of the Core base board is released.)
- If you replace the Compute Module with an original one from, say, RS Components, you'll be missing the high performance heatsink that we glue on top of the CPU, so the CPU may have to reduce clock speed if put under high load. (If you replace it with a Compute Module from a Core+/Connect+, this issue is obviously not present.)
- Damage to the product caused by opening the case or cutting the glue is not covered by warranty.
