Are you going to have a processing module based on the Raspberry Pi 4B soon?

Hi Rfbuehler, unfortunately today there is no CM4 available so we have to wait here for the RaspberryPi Foundation.

Hi,
are there any news about the RevPi based on a Raspberry 4b? Further i would like to ask if there is a possibility to upgrade the RAM on a RevPi 3 ?
Viele Grüße
Domenico

Since the RevPi is based on the Raspberry Pi Compute Module, we can only wait til the Raspi Foundation releases the Raspi 4 as a compute module version.
Unfortunatly the Foundation ain't giving much information about if they are planning to do so and when they plan to release it.
There is also a thread on the official Raspi forum about this:

Regarding your second question: RAM upgrade is not possible. Sorry.

Hi,
thank you. And any possibilities to upgrade the Flash storage?
Viele Grüße

Officially we do
not recommend to upgrade your system, since you have to open the product housing in order zu exchange the compute module which leads to loss of the product warranty.
If you don`t care about the warranty, I can give you following hints.
- The compute modules are compatible with each other, which means you can replace a Compute Module 1 with an Compute Module 3+
- The Compute Module of the RevPi Core (Item no: 100102) is only plugged in and can easily be removed.
- The Compute Module of the RevPi Connect (Item no.:100274) can also easily be removed since it's plugged and has additionally 2 screws for fixation.
- The Compute Module of the RevPi Core 3 (Item no:100257) is plugged and is additionally glued. To remove the glueing points without damaging the board is very tricky and we wouldn`t recommend it.
Here is also a thread, explaining how you can open the case (

What is the hardware differences between Core and Core3 part from the CM?
Would it be better to by a Core to upgrade then?

The boards are basically the same. Main difference is, that the Core 3 comes with a passive heat sink, while the Core doesn`t have one.
Despite the fact, that upgrading the CM will result in a loss of warranty, the MAC-adress and serial number lasered onto the case won`t match the actual MAC-Adress and Serial number of the RevPi, since those data is saved on the CM.
So, upgrading the RevPi that is used live in production is something we wouldn`t recommend at all. For people using RevPi for testing, prototyping and so on.... it might be an option.
From an economic point of view: Buying a Core (to save 26 €) and upgrade it with a Core 3 Compute Module + a heat sink + glue (the CM3 alone costs approx. 25 EUR) ........ Not a good idea to save money.
