Using RevPi Connect as Modbus Master

In the tutorial for Modbus TCP master, you say "For each slave you want to use, you need a virtual master." - is this the same if you are making an RTU-master ?
I am setting up the Pi as a master for 4-5 slave sensors that do RS485 modbus. Would it suffice to have one master ?
