RevPi Core 3 MTBF?

Post by phoenixai »

Hi,

Has the mean time between failures (MTBF) for RevPi Core 3 been determined?

Kind regards

HI,
with a device like this it is not possible to calculate the MTBF for the complete device (or the complete modular system) because there are several factors which are unknown. Especially the combination of Hard- and Software make things difficult because SW is much more likely to produce failure under unpredictable circumstances. Without SW such a system doesn't run so that it is hard to talk about a pure HW MTBF (e.g. the drivers do closely interact with the HW and if you e.g. overclock the HW you would get HW fails much more likely. Every electronic component we've used in the design is industrial grade and those with given FIT do have values well under 100 and we do use derating calculations to choose electronic parts with life time prolonging parameters (Voltage, Temperature, e.g. while specifying 55 °C as upper limit for ambient temp we do use components with much higher upper limits). HALT has also not been applied (partly because of the same reasons and because there are no comparable values for such a device family) but some of the EN61131-2 tests do get close to HALT conditions. As the product family is only available since about 15 month there are no statistical values allowing real MTBF calculations.
Hope this gives an impression about our efforts to aim to maximum MTFB.

It has now been 2 years since first availability. Is there MTBF data for the hardware now? Yes, I understand all the caveats about software interactivity, but assuming software is fault-free and does not drive the hardware out of spec (e.g. no overclocking), is there an MTBF calculation? Is this product based on an actual off-the-shelf Raspberry Pi or has it been specifically re-engineered for industrial use? Just putting it in an industrial case with a better power supply is not the same...

hello, kunbus team,
So RevPi Connect also has the same MTBF as a mention for RevPi core?
