Internal UPS
Is it possible or has anyone attempted to add an internal UPS, possibly based on a simple capacitor, to the Connect+? Beckhoff has a few CX controllers with a 1 second UPS built-in and I would like to add a similar feature to the Connect+
In the schematic of the Connect+, it shows 3 capacitors C305, C306, and C307 that are on the compute module's power input. If these capacitors were replaced with supercapacitors, could the module continue to operate for a few seconds after a main power loss in order to perform an orderly shutdown? The main power loss could be detected by wiring directly to the X2 Input.
After some more research I think the proper name for what I am looking for is a "capacitive buffer module". To revise my question.... Is it possible to fit a Buffer Module inside the Connect+ to provide a few seconds of power for an orderly shut down?
Dear Archie, sure it is possible to use a capacitor as an alternative way to avoid using an UPS. But we don't recommend it.
