RevPi Core + 100197 RevPI DIO Expansion Module Driving a 24V Relay
RevPi Core + 100197 RevPI DIO Expansion Module Driving a 24V Relay
Hey All,
I am trying to do a project with the RevPi Core with the 100197 digital input-output module.
I was wondering if it can drive a 24V relay?
What voltage do the Digital OUTPUTs supply, and what the digital INPUTS can read in the expansion module?
Thanks in Advance

Hi tmatt,
You can find the IO specifications in the DIO's datasheet. All datasheets can be found in our download area: https://revolutionpi.com/tutorials/downloads/

Thank you so much for the info. Unfortunately, I am not an expert in PLC and any help is welcomed.
I am still not sure if it can drive a 24V relay and also read 24V relays status.
Thanks in Advance.
Re: RevPi Core + 100197 RevPI DIO Expansion Module Driving a 24V Relay
Hi tmatt,
yes you can drive 24V relais with the DIO. Just make sure that the relais doesn't not draw more current than the outputs can provide (check DIO datasheet) . The needed current of the relais can be usually found in the (relais) manufacturers datasheet/documentation.

Thank you so much for the info. I am almost all good at buying it. Just one last concern about the expansion module. Does it have a DRY set of contacts (meaning, do I need to power the relay from a power source other than the module) or the module can power the relay as well ?
Thank you so much in Advance - Merry Christmas Buddy!

Re: RevPi Core + 100197 RevPI DIO Expansion Module Driving a 24V Relay
Hey T,
the module provides +24VDC on the outputs, so you just need to wire the output and ground (same potential as wired to the output power connector X2) to your relay.
Merry Christmas to you too,
Nicolai
